Snow day

It’s been snowing here all day.

I finished up my work for the week yesterday.  I don’t have anywhere I need to be.  I don’t have anything I need to do.

We have a stocked fridge and full cupboards.  We have beer.

My birthday was on Monday.

My birthday was on Monday.

I made breakfast this morning.  Eggs, toast, bacon and cinnamon rolls with strawberries, OJ and coffee on the side.  I am planning a spaghetti dinner for tonight.

I am still in my pajamas.  W and I are watching season four of The Walking Dead.

The cats are taking their afternoon naps along side us.

This is Bodhi.

This is Bodhi.

Later on, I hope to read the Joan Didion book I’m working on.  I hope to write.

Every once in awhile, I look out our bedroom window and watch the snow.  Each time, I am amazed by the beauty.  The white blanket has created a stillness and quietness that is so rare these days.

This is the view from our bedroom.

This is the view from our bedroom.

I am thankful for this pause in my hectic life.

I will worry about digging out tomorrow.

But today I’m taking a snow day.

Is it snowing where you are?  If so, how are you spending your snow day?

  1. We got almost 18″ here in Kentucky. My moms are still in their pajamas, too! Of course my day is no different from any other — eat, sleep, get annoyed by the dogs, sleep some more, repeat.

for the first time in almost 7 months, the sun is shining and it’s 3 degrees outside here in good old Saskatchewan Canada 🙂

  3. Glad you’re enjoying your snow day, and Happy (belated) Birthday!

  4. Happy belated birthday!! My daughter’s birthday is today so this snow day is for her (at least that’s what I told her). Bonus for me because I got to sleep in. (Yay!) The downside was I had to clear the driveway. (Boo!) The upside was that I did most of it with the snow blower. (Yay!) The downside is that it’s still snowing and doesn’t look like I did much. (Boo!) The upside is I’m leaving that for my husband to plow later. (Yay!) So now I’m drinking hot tea and trying to figure out how to construct an immunization database for my cousin (I’m helping her with her school work). I think the latest romance novel on my kindle is calling me…

  5. Snowing since 7AM in NYC, and sticking. Went to the dentist for a routine scheduled check-up and cleaning, and then went to Macy’s to return some boy’s XL shirts I’d bought on-line. While there I squared my butch shoulders and tried on several boy’s shirts in the boy’s dressing room (“Hi! Is there someplace it is OK for me to try these on?”). Bought a Ralph Lauren boy’s blue striped button down. No one blinked an eye.

    • I see you aren’t holed up indoors like we are. You’d think we were allergic to snow or something. Or from Georgia. Glad your shopping trip was productive and uneventful.

  6. It was an unusually warm 55° and sunny in my little slice of the universe today. 🙂 The sunset promises to be full of pink-hued, orange-tipped awesomeness. Overnight it will freeze. I am hoping for a repeat tomorrow, but I’ll not hold my breath.

I know the east coasters are heartily sick of cold and snow, but it is something I see little of these days, and I miss it. (Though I don’t miss shoveling it or driving in it.) So I love the glimpses I get when people share their photos of the snowpocalypse. Thanks for posting your view. 🙂

    • Snowpocalypse. How appropriate as we binge watch The Walking Dead on our snow day. We don’t do much shoveling as we have a 17-year-old on constant shovel duty. I don’t like driving on snowy roads either. But there’s something spectacular about that blanket of white. It has the power to make the world stop, at least for a day. And that’s a precious gift these days.

  7. Snow day here too. Getting about 8 inches I think. I spent the morning getting my wisdom teeth removed and the rest of the day lounging around on pain meds.

We finally got above the freezing mark here yesterday since mid January. Snow has been on the ground for so long. . . but now we have snow with a nice shiny sheen due to the snow/freezing rain storm we had on Tues. We don’t take snow days here, it’s just a normal winter day. Enjoy your down time! Cheers.
